Parel Vallei Girls’ Hockey is proud to announce that in 2026, we will be Playing with Purpose. Through our partnership with Sports For Life, our team will officially be playing for something greater than ourselves, supporting and building meaningful relationships with the welfare organisation Siphila Sonke.
We are thrilled to embark on this journey and look forward to growing our partnership with Siphila Sonke. Together, the Parel Vallei Girls’ Hockey family encourages our community to stand behind this initiative as we raise funds for a “School in a Box,” equipped with the CAMI programme. This will empower Siphila Sonke with the resources needed to reach and educate even more learners
Our Goals is therefore to raise R65 000.00 throughout the season.

Story
Siphila Sonke is a non-profit organisation based in the informal settlements near Grabouw in the Elgin Valley, founded in 2003 and is dedicated to supporting vulnerable families and children through care, outreach, and educational support.
One of Siphila Sonke’s key initiatives is the Kids Club programme, which runs every afternoon for 127 children aged 6–13 years, providing a safe and engaging environment for creative and academic stimulation.
The programme includes structured play, reading, maths, art, computer and tablet-based learning through dedicated spaces such as the CAMI project and the School in a Box hub. Children also receive a daily light snack, participate in excursions, holiday programmes, and special events such as Christmas parties , all designed to nurture their confidence, learning, and overall development.
Currently, the programme is supported by two teachers and two social workers. To strengthen our educational impact, we are hoping to appoint two teacher assistants, which would allow us to place a stronger focus this year on developing mathematics skills for learners in Grades 1–4. By building a solid foundation in maths at an early age, we aim to improve learners’ confidence and increase their opportunities to take pure mathematics in their later school years.
